Garden Trends for 2021

As gardening continues to become a favourite hobby for homeowners, you may be on the look out for the latest garden trends for this year. Here at Lawsons we have been analysing the most recent trends via Instagram, which we think will continue to dominate in 2021. Read our latest blog to uncover these latest trends.

Raised Garden Beds

Raised garden beds made from garden sleepers are not something new and have been around for a long time, but our sources suggest that they will continue to dominate in 2021. Raised garden beds create a stunning garden feature, while allowing your plants or vegetables to grow without having to remove those annoying weeds. There are many uses for raised garden beds such as growing your own vegetables and soft fruits – a trend which has grown in popularity over the years. Raised sleeper beds are also great for growing plants.

They are really simple and straightforward to build and there’s many advantages too including:

  • Look attractive and give your garden structure
  • Require less watering
  • Improved drainage
  • You can use better quality soil such as topsoil to ensure your plants and veg have excellent conditions to grow
  • Better mobility, due to the height of the raised beds its great to prevent any aches and pains from bending down.

What’s more is that you don’t have to stick to the traditional rectangle shape and be more experimental with the shape and the colour of your wooden sleeper bed.

Balcony Gardening in Urban Areas

Statistics have shown that about one in eight households have no access to a private garden, especially if you live in the city. With this in mind, many have now started to opt to have an outdoor garden space within their balcony. This is a huge and happening trend in London for 2021 and will only continue to grow if you analyse the UK’s population current housing preferences.

You can consider using wood such as decking on your balcony and decorate with pretty flowers and add some outdoor furniture to relax on warmer days.

Relaxing Outdoor Space

Relaxing and spending time in your own private garden during long summer days is a trend that really has peaked, especially with the onset of COVID-19 which forced many to spend a lot of time in their homes. This trend is all about creating a inside living look but outdoor in your garden, where the garden naturally begins to feel as an extension of your indoor living place. You can create a space which incorporates timber or composite decking or pick stylish and stunning paving with stunning outdoor furniture (lounge corners and long dining tables in grey are the current show stoppers) to compliment it.

White Gardens

A white themed garden is really trending now, as it really compliments the green outdoors. To achieve the white garden trend, you must choose a dark backdrop, vary the foliage, and add some stunning white flowers for that crisp and classic white look.  Some favourite white flower suggestions are peony, roses, clematis and petunia.

Also, as fencing is close to our heart, we also recommend painting your fence panels white to compliment your white garden theme.
