Field Gates

Choosing the Right Field Gate

Our range focuses on the quintessential 5 bar field gates design. This popular style, featuring five horizontal bars and diagonal bracing, offers exceptional strength and rigidity across wide spans. It's a design that has been trusted for generations on farms and country estates. We stock a huge variety of widths, from smaller 3ft pedestrian gates up to large 12ft driveway gates, ensuring you can find the perfect fit for your opening.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is a "universal" field gate?

A universal gate, like our popular Highgrove or Somerfield models, is designed so it can be hung from either the left or the right-hand side. This offers maximum flexibility during installation without you needing to order a specific "left-hand" or "right-hand" hung gate.

  • What hardware do I need to hang a field gate?

To hang a field gate correctly, you will need a gate hanging set or individual components. This typically includes a top and bottom hinge (or a full hinge set), a gate latch or catch, and sometimes a drop bolt for securing the gate in the open or closed position. All hardware should be heavy-duty and galvanised to prevent rust.

  • How do you ensure a field gate doesn't sag over time?

The key is a strong installation. The hanging post must be substantial and set very securely in the ground with concrete. Using the correct, heavy-duty hinge set is also crucial. The diagonal braces on the field gate itself are designed to distribute the weight and prevent sagging.
