The idea of Cavity Wall Insulation is to reduce heat loss through a cavity wall by filling the air space with material that inhibits heat transfer thus preventing or reducing convection. Heat will always flow from a warm area to a cold area and in our colder months, the cooler it is outside, the faster the heat from your home will escape into the surrounding air.
This could be up to one third of all your heat escaping if your walls are uninsulated which in turn is adding considerably to heating bills. With the building of new properties, the cavity is often filled with a glass fibre or rock wool slabs which are easily cut to size and light to handle, but if insulation is required on a renovation project, with cavity walls, a loose fill fibrous material would be used. If you need advice on which material you should be using do not hesitate to talk to our experienced sales personnel in your local Lawsons branch.
