3 Timber DIY Projects for Summer

Timber is the perfect material for a lot of DIY projects – it’s a tactile, forgiving material that can be used on any scale, from small pencil holders through to entire pieces of furniture. You don’t need a huge number of tools to get started, and don’t need huge premises to work on your project – a lot of things can be done out on your patio or even at the kitchen table.

We’ve been searching online for some great projects to help you make the most of the summer, whether you want to lounge outside or hide away indoors.

Wooden Sun Lounger

There’s nothing better than lying out in the sun with a cool drink. If you’re tired of just spreading a towel on the lawn in sunny weather, why not try making your own sun lounger. This saves hundreds compared to buying a solid timber lounger from a shop, and you can contour it to your perfect shape. You will need a jigsaw to work through the plans, and ideally a few clamps to keep the wood together while glue dries.

Sofa Drinks Table

If you’re more of the indoor type, or the weather just isn’t up to sun lounging this year, this petite sofa table can be made to the perfect height and shape of the arms on your sofa to keep a drink, snacks, or just your tablet handy when you’re relaxing.

You will need a drill and a saw for this – the blogger in Laptops to Lullabies uses an electric saw but unlike the lounger this table only needs straight cuts, so you can use a hand saw if that’s all you have.

Round Bathroom Mirror

Don’t forget to rub in your sunscreen before you go out! It’s always helpful to apply it in front of a mirror to make sure that you’re properly covered. This round mirror is surprisingly easy to make – you just create a square frame and cut the circle out of that before sanding and staining.

Depending on the size, you can save a lot of money by making your home accessories yourself.
