An introduction to Gates

An introduction to Gates

Installing a gate in your garden or as part of your fencing can give your property further security and privacy while also ensuring your home and garden look great. But with the options of steel and timber gates available, how can you be sure which gate is right for your garden? Read our blog for a quick introduction to wooden and metal gates.

At Lawsons, we offer a comprehensive range of high quality, low maintenance gates manufactured from premium grade timber or steel. As gates are used as access on point of entry it is important to choose one that compliments the property. Our range varies from Garden Gates, Field Gates and Metal Gates.

Garden Gates

Garden gates are essential for a secure home and easy access to your garden, particularly if you have pets who are allowed unsupervised in the garden. Choose from a range of styles and sizes to keep your pets in and unwanted visitors out while clearly showing the boundaries of your garden and land. You can install slatted gates or picket gates to match picket fencing, or if privacy is a concern we have gates that do not allow a line of sight into your garden.

Our garden gates are traditionally constructed and add character to the home and garden. The taller side gates add security and privacy to a property as well as aesthetics. They are made using sustainable joinery grade softwood that is PEFC certified. The majority are pressure treated using Womanit CX and are treated to UC4 level which is normally for wood in contact with the ground; so they are treated to the higher level.

At Lawsons, we have a broad range of garden gates nearly one to match almost every garden fence panel to give our customers an amazing selection to choose from. See our most popular styles below.

Field Gates

Field Gates

Field gates are a common sight in both the cities and countryside across the UK – perfect for everything from farms and country homes through to business premises and car parks. Lawsons’ field gates are universal, allowing them to be hung from the right or the left without having to buy a specific gate type.

These traditional gates are functional and durable. Made from slow-grown Scandinavian kiln dried softwood, it is planned to ensure a smooth and safe finish and braced with galvanised fixings for reliable and long-lasting operation once installed. Slow-grown softwood has the benefit of being harder than standard softwoods, without the additional cost and weight of a hardwood.

We stock everything from 3ft to 12ft gates in traditional designs so that you can find exactly what you need, and even match multiple gate sizes if necessary. All of our gates are also pressure-treated for durability, which improves their lifespan without increasing maintenance requirements.
