Declutter Your Home with Better Storage

Declutter Your Home with Better Storage

Every Christmas you accumulate even more stuff, so January’s the perfect time to start decluttering and finding homes for all of your new presents. You can effectively organise your home quickly with just a few new storage options.

Wall-Mount New Shelving

If you have a small space, you may not be able to add a freestanding shelf to your room, but most rooms have the capacity for some shelving. You can buy pre-made shelves or just fashion your own out of wood. Putting up shelves along your walls offers space for books, odds and ends, and even picture frames without giving up any floor space. You can even replace some furniture using intelligent shelving – for example, if you don’t have space for a dressing table a floating shelf with a mirror on top can work instead. Hooks on the underside can even help you find a home for other items such as handbags and belts.

Use Boxes, Baskets, and Benches

If your home is organised but still looks a little cluttered, it can help to hide things to make each space look a little more minimal. Boxes, baskets, and storage benches are perfect for this – you just need to find the right size for your shelf or space, and can easily throw some more items in there to make the most of your storage. You can even build your own benches – take a look at our blog post on building benches and organisers for some ideas.

Hang It Up

If you want a simpler solution, a few hooks could go a long way to finding homes for things like keys, bags, and even kitchen utensils. Find spaces behind or on the back of doors to make the most of opportunities and go for multiple hooks so that they do not get overloaded. This is especially helpful in bathrooms and in bedrooms, where you may need to hang up towels, dressing gowns, and clothes that have been worn but aren’t quite ready for the laundry yet.
