Yard Operative - Acton Branch
The Acton Branch is looking to recruit a Yard Operative. This is a full time, permanent position.
Previous experience in a Timber or Builders Merchants is desirable, preferably with forklift experience, however training will be provided.
As a Yard Operative you will maintain high standards of customer service, stock handling, housekeeping and Yard safety and security.
It will be necessary for the successful candidate to hold a full valid Driving License.
Key Task Requirements
- It will be necessary for the successful candidate to hold a full valid Driving License
- Continually projecting and promoting the company image of service and quality.
- Unload, handle, transport and store materials safely and securely.
- Assist customers to load their vehicles when required.
- Assisting to prepare customers ordered as advised by the Yard Supervisor.
- Answer customers questions and queries or direct them to another member of staff.
- Maintain high standards of stock handling and management.
- Ensure the Yard is clean, tidy and free from hazards.
- Use of Fork Lift Trucks / lifting and moving equipment and timber cutting equipment (where applicable and after full training has been completed)
- Reporting of all defects of company plant and machinery immediately to the Yard Supervisor (where authorised and trained to use)
- Participate in training to develop a knowledge of the company, its products and the elements necessary to be successful in the business.

Key Skill Requirements
- Previous experience within a Builders Merchants or similar desirable.
- Forklift experience desirable, but not essential as full training will be given.
- Excellent communication skills and customer service skills
- Basic Building & Timber Product knowledge desirable.
- Ensure that customer requests are carried out accurately and promptly.
- Sufficiently competent in Maths to measure timber accurately and basic literacy required.
- Relate to co-workers in a supportive manner.
- The ability to work under pressure and to multi task.
- Reasonable level of fitness.
- Be vigilant at all times to prevent loss of products by theft etc.
