If you’re planning a complete garden re-design or simply want to freshen things up, one of the best places to start is to learn about some of the hottest trends in gardening and landscaping.
To help give you some inspiration, we’ve done all the research, so that we can share the top trends that gardening enthusiasts and designers think will make it big in 2019…
1. Coral flowers
Pantone officially named ‘Living Coral’ as its 2019 Colour of the Year. They describe this colour as ‘an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge’. Chosen by the team of colour experts and trend forecasters at Pantone, Living Coral is set to influence everything from fashion to your social media feeds and gardens this year.
You can tap into this trend by using a selection of flowers which come in a variety of coral-coloured blossoms, such as roses, dahlias, snapdragons, sweet peas, peonies, poppies, tulips and hyacinths.
2. Crazy paving
Crazy paving and stepping stones are expected to make a comeback in 2019. Garden designers also foresee the continued popularity of porcelain paving which looks like real stone, but are moss, algae and frost resistant, plus have an excellent non-slip quality.
3. Log walls and railway sleepers
Log walls are being seen in many of the latest landscaping designs. They are a beautiful way to divide up your outdoor space and can also act as a safe habitat for insects and wildlife. We also expect to see a lot more industrial and reclaimed materials, such as railway sleepers in the garden. This is because they are such a versatile and attractive natural material, which can be adapted to so many applications.
4. Evergreen topiary
Evergreen topiary is perfect for gardens of all shapes and sizes because it adds depth and texture all year round. Topiary will be making a massive come back this year with cubes, twists and stars already being spotted in modern landscape designs. Topiary hedging is ideal for outlining areas in your garden, as it provides strong horizontal lines that will complement your lawn or patio. If you don’t think you can compete with Edward Scissor Hands, don’t worry, there are plenty readymade topiary bushes available to buy.
5. Adult treehouses and summerhouses
This trend may seem a little eccentric, but adult treehouses and summerhouses are set to be all the rage in 2019.
Treehouses and summerhouses are a great way to enjoy your garden, no matter the weather. You can embrace the outdoors by constructing your own hideaway up a tree or invest in a more conventional pre-assembled summerhouse.
