We are one of the largest stockists of reclaimed railway sleepers in the UK. Our 2.6m reclaimed railway sleeper is perfect for flower bed edgings, bases and bridges. You can create garden steps and soil retention structures - but we would not recommend them for use if growing vegetables or other edible crops.

These products are heavy so let AVS deliver to your kerbside, be aware you will need at least two of you to carry a sleeper when you set out on your project. Many of our branches have the ability to cut sleepers to size, please enquire at your local branch.

Please note to avoid shakes and splitting, these sleepers often have metal cam plates.

Safety & Handling Guidelines

Creosote is a highly effective, industrial-grade wood preservative, but it can cause severe skin irritation and chemical burns upon direct contact. When handling or working with reclaimed sleepers, the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and handling measures must be strictly adhered to:

• Skin Protection: Always wear heavy-duty, water-resistant gloves and long-sleeved clothing to prevent any direct skin contact.

• Eye & Face Protection: Wear protective safety goggles when moving, cutting, or drilling the timber.

• Respiratory Protection: Wear an appropriate dust mask (minimum FFP2) when cutting or sanding to avoid inhaling creosote-infused sawdust.

• Hygiene: Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly after handling and before eating, drinking, or smoking.

Restricted Uses & Legal Compliance

In accordance with UK health and safety regulations, reclaimed creosote-treated sleepers must not be used in areas where frequent skin contact is likely, or where they may come into contact with food crops.

• DO NOT use for: Domestic garden furniture, children's play areas, interior applications, or raised beds used for growing vegetables and food crops.

• SUITABLE for: Heavy-duty agricultural fencing, retaining walls in industrial or trade settings, and civil engineering infrastructure where human contact is minimal.
